Bear Park Herne Bay
Bear Park Herne Bay
Our Centre
On the sunny corner of Shelly Beach Road and Tweed Street, just a few minutes’ walk from Ponsonby Primary School, you’ll find the wonderful world of Bear Park Herne Bay.
Our centre is located in a characterful, homely bungalow, with a modern, purpose-built extension. The extension was designed to allow natural light to spill into the interior, creating learning spaces that are connected, inviting and well-equipped. No matter what your child’s age, our days follow a familiar pattern and rhythm – creating a safe foundation from which children can explore. Our indoor and outdoor classrooms are inventive and richly resourced, with the constant goal of supporting our children’s learning and creating opportunities for imaginative, creative and scientific play.
Our pre-schoolers have a multi-layered learning environment which challenges and invites curiosity. Our infants and toddlers share a common outdoor garden and natural play area, separated from the older children by a low fence. This enables all our members to be supported by age-appropriate resources while interacting with their bigger and littler peers.
A Place of Encounters
At Bear Park Herne Bay, we are passionate about creating an environment that is warm, caring and focused on the self-worth and wellbeing of children, teachers and whānau.
Our World
We introduce our children to easy and achievable sustainable daily practices, encouraging them to become confident advocates for caring for our world.
Our Worth
We strongly believe in small learning groups where children can confidently engage and learn together, thus building upon their self-esteem and sense of self-worth.
Our Wellbeing
At the front of our property is our recently created, sustainable garden area. This garden was built as a place of calm and tranquillity for all to enjoy.
Our Focus
Herne Bay Childcare Team
The Fantail room offers a warm and nurturing environment for our infants.
We value children as being precious individuals who make up an integral part of our community and our role to treat the children with love and respect. We feel that as educators it is our role to be respectful of each child’s individual needs, personalities and identity.
We strongly believe that parents and teacher partnerships are important when building solid learning foundations for young children. We feel that relationships between educator’s and parents/ whanau need to be built on trust, respect and communication. We ensure that we are providing a stimulating learning environment and are catering to all ages. Together we are building foundations for competent and confident life long learners.
The Kakapo children are our inquisitive and energetic toddlers. The Kakapo team believe in building respectful and reciprocal relationships between all children and their family and whanau. Our team values the participation of all children and families and the diversity they bring to our learning community. Our image of the child is a child who is a competent and confident communicator through their hundred languages. We offer opportunities for children to explore and discover the many possibilities that lie within themselves and fulfil their curiosity about the world they live in. Our environment fosters the children’s natural curiosity and challenges their thinking of the wider world. We have created a warm and rich environment that is welcoming to all.
In the Kea Room we celebrate and strive towards nurturing the child’s unique perspective of themselves & the world around them. We view children as capable and competent and believe that everyone should be treated with respect and kindness.
Our environment is very supportive of our children’s learning and growing independence. The various spaces and provocations inspire and stimulate curiosity, learning and exploration amongst the group. We foster strong relationships with children and their whanau, so that we can work in partnership to empower our children in a holistic way.
Through exploration, we believe that children are creating their own theories and perspectives of the world around them, and it is our role as educators to support them through the learning process.
We believe The Tui Room is a space where children’s innate curiosity, and eagerness to learn, is instilled daily. This is created by the teachers utilising the environment as the third teacher, providing meaningful provocations that enrich and deepen the children’s understanding of the world.
Our children’s curiosity is fostered, questioning is invited, and joy fills the room.
We encourage relationships that are open, honest & respectful. This helps to create a strong sense of belonging within the classroom, within the Bear Park family and within the wider community. Our children are challenged, focused and supported to engage in collaborative learning in small groups.
In the Kiwi Room we take pride in supporting a love of learning, and an eagerness to share this learning with others. We carefully listen to the children’s ideas and provide a classroom environment, where they can delve much deeper with these.
The kiwi room is a place where children can explore their thoughts, feelings and ideas through the 100 languages. It is through the array of creative materials and resources to offer that our Kaiako/teachers can authentically support and guide children’s learning.
Our rich learning environment is set with meaningful and inspiring provocations for our children. It is this that evokes, wonder, joy and a genuine love of learning amongst our learners.
The kiwi rooms support the transition to school process in a holistic way. We have close communication with our local schools and ensure we share the same values & expectations to ensure a smooth transition for the whole family.
