Our Centre

Located in Auckland’s vibrant Waitakere region, Bear Park Henderson has become an indispensable part of Waitakere’s multilingual, culturally-rich, family dominated community.

Located in a modern, user-friendly building – with five dedicated classrooms catering for all ages and stages of our tamariki – Bear Park Henderson offers the community the chance to be part of something special. We believe in empowering our tamariki to take ownership of their learning and their choices to enable them to develop a sense of themselves as capable, confident learners. Our centre has an outdoor environment, reflective of West Auckland, offering spaces for children to be at one with nature, to discover cosy nests of space and encourage them to collaborate with staff and each other in our secret garden spaces and shared areas. We are passionate about developing an awareness of how to care for our environment, to support our children to be the Kaitiakitanga (guardians) of the natural world.

We strongly value our partnerships with our families and our community and are always striving to provide opportunities for engagement and involvement. We believe children, teachers and whānau are collaborative learners who work best alongside each other in a tuakana-teina relationship.

‘My strength does not come from me alone, it comes from the many.’ – Whakataiki Maori proverb.

A Lifetime of Learning

Our inspiring qualified teachers are passionate about providing our youngest people with rich and varied early childhood learning experiences.

Our Ever-Evolving Landscape

Throughout our five classrooms, we provide a learning landscape which is constantly evolving to support the zones of proximal development for our tamariki.

Our Inclusive Opportunities

We take time to provide inclusive learning opportunities, such as collaborative meeting times, investigative experiences and sessions on our children’s well-being.

Our Daily Rituals

Our daily flow has a ritual-like sense, rather than that of a routine. We view this ritual as a truly meaningful practice which fosters our children’s holistic development.

Our Focus

Our constant focus is on creating and sustaining a learning partnership with our children, parents, whānau and teachers. In order to move forward together, we welcome and encourage open communication and reflection.
