In dialogue with a snail!

Nothing can replace a physical encounter in the garden and the discovery of a snail, a ladybug or a butterfly. However, the use of technology can help us to remember to slow down, to zoom in, to zoom out and to share our experiences with others.

So when we use technology in a purposeful way, it can play an active part in the education of the children by bringing their different interest and disposition together. Also, when we use it in the right context, we can bring authentic learning experiences joy, dialogue, curiosity and wonder – this is what we discovered whilst visiting the garden with a small group of friends.

With the introduction of the camera the extensions of the children’s desire of contemplation towards the snail they had discovered outside, unfolded.

Through suggesting the use of technology, we acknowledge its meaningful way of fusing the digital and natural worlds, thus allowing the children the possibility to recognize, hypothesize, theorize and re-think.

We know that technology empowers our children to create their own form of documentation, memory and research as well as enabling them to the opportunity to explore new ways of communicating their knowledge and ideas with others.
